The presentation gives an overview of the state of development of the industry in the Upper Rhine region concerning Industry 4.0 applications and an insight into the structural peculiarities of this tri-national metropolitan region. The analyses are based on the Extensive European Manufacturing Survey and an additional survey in Alsace, which enabled a reliable empirical coverage. First, the dissemination of I4.0 preparatory technologies was examined. The fundamental relevance of production and company conditions for technological diffusion can be clearly demonstrated. The Readiness I4.0 Index also allowed a comparison of the sub-regions and a description of the specific development of the region as a whole. One in five companies uses digital technologies in different fields and has at least two near-CPS applications in production. On the other hand, over 50 percent of companies in the Upper Rhine use digital applications only in certain areas and are still at the beginning of using IT-related processes in their production. In fact, 10 percent of the companies have not yet used any of the digital applications examined.
Guests are welcome.
